Who We Are

For nearly a century, Brown Street Baptist Church has sought to faithfully proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and help people follow him more effectively.

Our Purpose- Helping people know and follow Jesus

Focus- Knowing and following Jesus means…

  • We know him through his Word, the Bible,
  • We know him through his people in this church community,
  • We seek to obey him through keeping his commands and loving his people, and…
  • We seek to introduce him to others through acts of love and proclamation of the good news.

These principles inform our gatherings, as people come together to hear the Bible taught, affirm those truths in song, and respond to them in prayer. We take what we have learned and pass those truths on to others in teaching and service, establishing and maintaining an environment where Jesus is made known.

Some of the priorities that drive us in our desire to help people follow Jesus include:

  • Commitment to Scripture- We are convinced that the Scriptures have been provided by our Creator in order for us to know God as he has revealed himself and what his desires are for our lives. The Bible was given without error in its original languages and is completely trustworthy and authoritative for us today. We are committed to interpreting the Scriptures in a literal historical-grammatical way.
  • Expositional Preaching- The point of the Scripture text is the point we seek to expose in our preaching. Our general approach is to work our way through books of the Bible by chapter and verse, applying the timeless truths in ways that can be practically applied today.
  • Worship in Song- Our music is carefully selected to affirm God’s truth in ways that are memorable and sing-able. Our choices draw extensively from the rich tradition of Christian hymnody, but also include some of the best examples of what is being produced by believers today. Our congregational singing is led by a worship team of musicians who sing and play instruments like the piano, violin, flute, and trumpet joyfully.

Here to Serve You!

Brown Street is blessed to have a committed team of gifted pastors and experienced servant-leaders.

Pastoral Staff

Pastor Greg Linscott, Senior Pastor- Pastor Linscott was raised in Christian home, the son of a US Navy sailor father and a Filipina mother. He began his ministry at Brown Street in January 2018 after 15 years of pastoral experience in Minnesota, Maine, and Iowa.

His desire is to make the Bible readily understood, and to make church something that is both practical today and preparing you for a better future. No matter your age, ethnicity, or social category, God speaks to us today through his Word, and Pastor Linscott’s priority is that you would hear, understand, and respond accordingly.

Greg and his wife Jennifer are the proud parents of seven children, and have experience in home education and adoption through the foster care system. He is a fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and New England Patriots. He currently serves on the Council of 18 for the GARBC and the Council of 8 for the Il-Mo ARBC.

Pastor Eric Lloyd, Assistant Pastor– Eric was born in Alton and grew up attending BSBC. He oversees Youth and Children’s ministry at Brown Street, and leads the Sunday AM Worship Team. He has served here since August 2015.

Eric has a burden for the younger generations to experience the love of God in their own lives and commit to follow Him. Today’s children and teens are faced with incredible peer pressure and have the world at their fingerprints. Eric’s goal is for these children and teens to see God’s plan for their lives and yield their lives to Him. When that occurs, it is amazing what peace and joy comes to those who trust in God.

Eric and his wife Kimberly have two daughters. He enjoys rooting for the Cardinals, visiting National Parks, and reading trivia about US Presidential history. He currently serves on the board of Camp Manitoumi and the Il-Mo ARBC Youth Committee.
